BCYC

THE YACHTS

This register is of boats that have been accepted by the Committee of the BCYC for membership of the club, as being 'Classic' Yachts.

The criteria for membership include:

  • hull material of wood, steel or iron
  • design date of 1970 or before
  • a minimum overhang rule

Usually the build date is before 1970 but some wooden yachts have been accepted which have been built after this date, where the design date criterion has not been breached.

The club is named the British Classic Yacht Club, and many of the boats were built by the great British boatyards, but being built in Britain or designed by a Briton, have never been criteria for membership.

The definition of a “Classic Yacht” is subjective but includes many of the most beautiful boats still sailing; some of which have great racing records whilst others represent design milestones in the development of sailing yachts.

Click on the yacht names on the left for their details and photographs.

The BCYC Classic
Yacht Database

The BCYC Classic Yacht Database is a project to establish a record of 'Classic' Yachts, with broadly the same criteria as those in the register, but which will be open to non-member yachts from all over the world. The database will be open to be added to online via “Wiki” files. It is expected that the database will be online early in 2007.
