Shuttle was built by the Berthon
Boat Company at Lymington in 1937 to Lloyds 100A1 built of Burma
Teak planking on grown Oak frames with two steamed Elm frames
between. Interior panelled in Japenese light Oak. Originally cost
£2,500.00 (which was expensive bearing in mind that the
yards 36 foot Gauntlet being produced at the same time was £1,000.00
guineas and you could buy quite a substantial Estate for that
at the time!)
She was built for a Mr McDougal of whom I know nothing other than
that he had anwa 86 ton Motor Yacht at the same time. He is reputed
to have died abroad while racing pre-war. After the war she was
sold to a Mr. Foster, a Lloyds Underwriter, who was the only other
owner to race her.
She was then owned between approximately 1952-1959 by Charles
Owen Morley a Birmingham paint manufacturer.
In 1960 my father and grand-father J. Alastair L. Peck R.I.N.A.
Mech E. and Alan W. Peck R.I.N.A. Mech E., both naval architects
and ship builders, purchased her at Hamble and she was kept off
the Royal Southern and in Salcombe until 1966 when she was sold
to Piero Stuchi and a Mr Berla of Italy.
She was re-classed by them to Lloyds
100A1 at the Berthen Boat Company before leaving for the Mediterranean
where she had a home Port at Barcelona for half the year and the
rest of the year in Viarregio. They also had her up in the Adriatic
for a while.
In 1975-1976 she was re-decked at the Pourto Santo Stefano Yard
which recently rebuilt Dorade and Stormy Weather.

In 1977 she was purchased by me
her current owner Noel L. Peck LLB and sailed back to England
in November-December.
In 1978 she was hit by a lorry in Cobbs Quay and returned to Berthon
Boat Company Limited at Lymington for an 18 month re-fit including
new garboards and two planks each side, forty-five new frames,
all the strap floors out refettled and replaced, re-construction
of counter transom, new laminated lower stem and complete back
to wood re-paint throughout.
She was also tripple fastened on all the grown frames and has
never required pumping in the following 25 years!
Used during this ownership strictly for cruising in UK and Continental
waters but may go back to the Mediterranean for a spell in the
next couple of years. Home Port Salcombe.
Owner's Clubs Royal Southern Yacht Club, Royal Motor Yacht Club,
Salcombe Yacht Club and Alderney Sailing Club as well as BCYC.
