Safir was designed by Gustar Estlander and built by Abrahamsson & Bojesson in 1930 for the Swedish Industrialist – Marcus Wallenberg. She was originally named Ergeka. She won the Sinebryckoffspokalen in 1933 and 1934 but the present owner has no further information on her racing record. She remained in Sweden until 2004 when she was purchased by the present owner and her home port is now Suffolk Yacht Harbour at Levington. Substantial restoration has been undertaken during the 1990’s by Per Wermelin at Djuro Batvarv and since coming to England by Jonathan Dyke’s team at Suffolk Yacht Harbour.
During a race at Les Regattes Royales in Cannes 2008 Safir was involved in a collision. The rig fell on Wilf Tolhurst, the owner and helmsman and he was tragically killed. Safir was washed onto nearby rocks and destroyed.
