Erica was found in Seattle USA at the wooden
boat museum. They were looking for someone to restore her and
after passing their eligibility tests and explaining that Richard
had just finished restoring 6m Caprice, 1946 McGruer.
He bought her and brought her back to the UK.
She was designed by Charles Nicholson to very similar line plans
as J Class Endeavour and built by Camper & Nicholson’s
in 1938 for Donald Teacher of the Whiskey fame. She was sailed
out of the Royal Northern YC in Rhue, where her half model hangs.
She then went to the USA for the Seawanaka Cup in Seattle. She
remained there until she was purchased in 2001. She came 6th in
the 2003 World Championships in St Tropez, but has a very respected
turn of speed and should do better when sailed well!
