I recently bought Amazon in the US and I have to say that I am still in the process of gathering more information of her past.

With the help of the office of Sparkman & Stephens in New York, I have found the first drawings of Amazon, dated December 1970. Mr John B Goulandris wanted a fast boat to race in the East Coast of the US, in particular the Bermudan race. I have been told that he was a close friend of george Cooomantaris who was the owner of Baccara, a 73' S&S design built in 1968 and he sailed extensively on that boat before launching his project.

Amazon had been built in 1971 by Camper & Nicholsons Gosport yard. She has been racing extensively on the north shore of the US until she was sold in 1977. She then belonged to a couple of different owners who used her essentially as a cruising boat in the US and in the South of Europe.

In 1992 her German owner, Mr Klaus Lower, decided to undertake a major refit in Holland respecting strictly her original design and sail plan. She came back to the US afterwards.

I became the owner of Amazon in July 2009. She has had a refit in La Rochelle and I will be sailing in classic races in 2010. This summer Amazao will compete in Brest Classic week,the Judith trophy (Douarnerez/Southampton) The British Classic Regatta and La Coupe de 3 Phares (Fowey/Brest/La Rochelle).
