1.

ORGANISING AUTHORITY

1.1

The British Classic Yacht Club in conjunction with the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge

1.2

Regatta Headquarters will be in the Regatta Race Office situated on Cowes Yacht Haven

 

 

2.

RULES

 

The Race will be governed by:

a)

The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS 2009 – 2012).

b)

The IRC 2011 Rule

c)

The ISAF Offshore Special Regulations 2010/11 for Category 4 (except as modified in 5 below).

d)

Class 0 yachts shall agree to conform with the C.I.M. Code of Practice for Big Class Racing.

e)

This is a Category A event pursuant to the ISAF Advertising Code

f)

RRS 77 and Appendix G will not be enforced during this regatta.

   

3.

ELIGIBILITY
3.1 The Panerai Classic Around the Island Race is open to ‘Classic Yachts’ with a current IRC Rating Certificate. 
3.2 All yachts shall have a minimum LOD of 7.32m (24 ft).  
3.3 A ‘Classic Yacht’, for the purpose of the Race, is a monohull designed and built for recreational purposes in wood or steel to a pre-1970 design by traditional build methods.
3.4 Modern  Classics  shall  be  Spirit Yachts  or yachts that the Committee of BCYC consider to be built  with the appearance of ‘a classic’.
3.5

Large Classic Yachts with length on deck (LOD) 21.34m (70’) and over, with a current IRC Rating Certificate.

3.6

Cruising classic Yachts – no IRC Certificate required.

3.7 The Committee reserve the right to refuse entry to any yacht of crew that it considers is not ‘within the spirit of its regatta’.
   

4.

CLASSES
 

Class 0  - Large Classic Yachts  

 

Up to 4 further Classes split at the discretion of the Organising Committee whose decisions will be final.

   

5.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
5.1
    All boats, shall comply with Category 4 of the ISAF Offshore Special Regulations 2010/11 except that Regulations    3.09.1, 3.09.2, 3.09.4 (cockpit self draining capability, watertight integrity and cockpit sole above LWL) and 3.14 (pulpits stanchions and lifelines) shall not apply.

5.2
    A Class may have a race cancelled in the event of unduly adverse weather conditions relative to the safety characteristics of the Class.
5.3
    Boats shall have sufficient inflatable lifejackets on board for each member of the crew at all times.
5.4 All Boats shall have VHF Channel 72.
   

6.

HANDICAPS
6.1 The IRC Handicap system will be used.
6.2 A copy of the current IRC Rating Certificate shall accompany every entry form.
6.3 The attention of owner/entrants is drawn to RRS 78.1. and the Race Organisers reserve the right to make random checks on measurements given on IRC Rating Certificates.

8.

RACING AREA AND COURSES
All Classes will start from a Committee Boat in the Central Solent and the course will be around the Island in a Clockwise direction.  Full Course details will be provided in the Sailing Instructions.

   

9.

  1. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing Instructions will be available at Registration.

 

   

10.

  1. ENTRY AND ENTRY FEE

The Entry Fee (which excludes the cost of berthing) shall be £50.00 (Free to entrants of the whole Panerai Regatta). The Entry Form shall be completed and returned to BCYC c/o Mary Scott-Jackson at MSJ Event Management - 
by Friday 8th July 2011.  There will be an additional late entry fee of £25 after this date.

11.

PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded and details will be listed on the Official Notice Board in Cowes Yacht Haven.

Awards will be presented at the Prize Giving Dinner to be held at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club on Friday 22nd  July.

   

12.

  1. INSURANCE

All boats shall hold a current certificate of insurance which covers them during the period of

The Regatta, for third party claims of not less than £2,000,000 sterling.

 

   

13.

BERTHING

Berthing for valid entries has been reserved in Cowes Yacht Haven from 12:00 Saturday 16 July to 12:00 Saturday 23 July for which there is a separate fee of £21 per metre LOA. All yachts, unless restrained by depth or length, shall be berthed in CYH. For further information on berthing at the Yacht Haven contact Ray Plant at  r.plant60@ntlworld.com

 

Boats with draft over 3.5 metres which are too deep for the Yacht Haven should contact Cowes Harbour Master on 01983 293952 or chc@cowes.co.uk

   

14.

DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

To the extent permitted by law, the Organising Authority and Race Organisers shall not be liable for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner /competitor, his skipper or crew, as a result of their taking part in the race or races. Moreover, every owner/competitor warrants the suitability of his boat for the race or races.


The safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/competitor who must ensure that the boat is fully found, thoroughly seaworthy, manned by a crew sufficient in number and experience who are physically fit to face bad weather. The owner/competitor must be satisfied as to the soundness of the hull, spars, rigging and all gear and must ensure that all safety equipment is properly maintained, stowed and in date and that the crew know where it is kept and how it is to be used.


Neither the establishment of these conditions, nor their use by the Organising Authority and the Race Organisers, in any way limits the absolute responsibility of the owner/ competitor. The crew are nonetheless advised to satisfy themselves as to the experience of the skipper and the adequacy of all safety equipment and insurance arrangements.
