Racing Info
Panerai British Classic Week has gone from strength to strength since its inception 10 years ago and, whilst the racing is taken seriously, the regatta still very much retains its Corinthian spirit out on the water.
Racing is based in the Central Solent with five races taking place over the week long regatta, one of which is a Long Inshore Race. Yachts can discard their worst score if they sail all five races, however, the score for the Long Inshore Race will be weighted by 1.2 and will not be possible to discard.
Eligibility – The Yachts
- The regatta is open to yachts with a current IRC Rating Certificate.
- All yachts to be a minimum of 24ft(7.32m)LOD.
- A ‘Classic Yacht’ for the purpose of the regatta, is a monohull designed and built for recreational purposes in wood or steel to a pre-1970 design by traditional build methods.
- Modern Classic Yachts shall be Spirit Yachts or yachts that the Committee of BCYC consider to be built with the appearance of a ‘Classic’.
- Large Classic Yachts with length on deck 70ft (21.34m)and over, with a current IRC Certificate.
- Cruising Classic Yachts – no IRC Certificate required.
Panerai Classic Round the Island Race
New for 2011, this will take place on Sunday 17th July and will be a ‘stand alone’ race that will also be open to non-regatta entrants. Full details will be posted here as soon as they are available.
