Entry opens for the British classic yacht club Panerai Cowes regatta 2010.

Thursday 8th April 2010

The British Classic Yacht Club, in conjunction with their event sponsor Panerai, are pleased to announce that entries are now being accepted for the ninth edition of the Club’s annual Cowes regatta for classic yachts of all sizes.

The British Classic Yacht Club Panerai Cowes Regatta 2010 will run from Sunday 18th July to Saturday 24th July. Competing yachts will be berthed at the Cowes Yacht Haven.

For the first time, this year’s regatta forms part of the 2010 Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge Series. Sponsored by Panerai since 2005, this high profile series features some of the world’s leading classic yacht regattas, including the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta and the Regates Royale, Cannes.

As usual, the regatta programme features a full schedule of racing for competing skippers and their crews, including day racing around the environs of the Solent as well as the ever-popular Round the Island Race, which this year is scheduled for Tuesday 20th July.

The 2010 edition of the regatta sees introduction of a Rally Division, offering those owners and crews not inclined towards racing, the chance to take in the spectacle of the racing yachts during a congenial week amongst like-minded Classic Yacht enthusiasts.  The provisional Rally Division programme features several sails in company to view the racing, a day cruise around the Island and a visit to nearby Osborne House.

One of the Regatta’s favourite traditions is the ‘je ne sais quois’ which, over the course of the regatta, offers owners and crews the chance to meet with fellow competitors aboard their classic yachts and ultimately vote for the individual entry which they believe truly has ‘that special something.’

As in previous years, all competing yachts are cordially invited to take part in a spectacular regatta finale, in the form of a Parade of Sail past the Royal Yacht Squadron and Cowes Green on Saturday 24th July.

In addition to the on the water activities, competitors will once again be able to enjoy a full social programme, including a Welcome Reception at the Royal Yacht Squadron, access to the Panerai Hospitality Marquee, a Caribbean themed Crew Party, as well as the final Regatta Dinner and Prizegiving.
